Portfolio
I have chosen a variety of paintings, prints and drawings. My choices are an attempt to show variety of processes and techniques. The latter work demonstrates how my ideas are forming out of these processes.
Knitted Cardigan
I made a print from a knitted cardigan that belonged to my nephew. I wanted to continue working with the emotion that I linked to my life drawings but using a different process. I chose printmaking as it's the process I enjoy the most because of the final outcome you get when not knowing how the print will turn out. I collected items like this one because of the emotion it holds. You can always relate it with something about yourself or something you care about with a personal item like this. Using the actual object to create the plate creates a fossilised effect.
Life Drawing Print
This is a print that I made using one of my life drawings. I really enjoy life drawing and print making so I decided to combine the two together and get a print from one of my drawings. I selected one of the drawings and decided on a print process which I chose woodblock. After I had finished cutting the wood I printed onto different materials. Here the print is printed onto tissue paper.
Wall Tile
Ceramics is another process I enjoy. It's all about the curiosity that comes with different materials and what you can create with them. Just like the relief quality of collagraph prints. I enjoy using different oxides to play with the colour, and when the work has it's final firing in the kiln seeing what's been made from something so simple as clay. Like printmaking I like the suprise that comes from a newly fired piece of ceramics.
Emotion Drawing
This was part of my first year final piece which was on the figure and emotion using different materials and colour. I did research on different emotions such as sadness, depression and isolation. I then used them for the emotion . I took photos of different poses and used them for my drawings. I did different chalk drawings like this one with many vibrant colours leaving out any face and body detail with just the shape and pose showing.
Emotion Painting
This is an oil painting which was also part of my final piece. It linked with the drawings of emotion because it was a life drawing on emotion which I left out any main detail in the body and face.
Observational Print
This is a monotype developed from an observational drawing. Our college is in an urban setting and this elevated view shows the landscape dominated by Quarry Hill House a government department building. Locals sometimes call it the Kremlin.
Marker Pen Life Drawing
This was a life drawing made up of different marks and tones. I started with making really fine lines with a marker pen then going over them deeper. I used water and a paint brush for the shading.
Life Drawing
I have chosen a quick sketch life drawing to show what I have drawn with different amounts of time. This drawing was a quick five minute limit for each pose. I liked seeing how the drawing turned out after working so quickly.
Flower Print
I really wanted to try out different materials so while I was collecting items I decided to make a collagraph print on different raised materials. I used materials with different heights and thickness to see how much printed and what didn't. I always enjoy a print process and waiting to see how the print turns out. Although this was a sample piece it has a lightness I like.
Multicolour Flower Print
This is my print from a flower collagraph. I have several prints with different colours on each print. I used crepe paper, string and rag for the materials. This was one of my first collagraphs that I made and I really enjoyed the whole process and the outcome of the print. This was when I realised print making was my true passion in art.
Pomegranate Painting
This is my painting of a pomegranate. I took a photo of the pomegranate and used the image throughout the painting process. It is an oil painting made up of mark making and rubbing in the colours using rag and other materials rather than a brush painting.
Day Items Painting
This is an acrylic painting from a set up that I selected. I chose items from my bag that I use during the day and then took a photo of the set up.
Me
I would say I am a self motivated individual. I can easily work on my own and find ideas to make things. I enjoy going to new places and seeing new things. I enjoy going to art galleries and seeing current work that is being made in the industry. I really enjoyed going to the Bi-Annual exhibition at the Tate gallery in Liverpool. After seeing the art work it got me thinking of ideas for art works. I like trying out new things. I'm always looking for different ways of working and collecting materials and playing with ideas. I'm very outgoing and easy to be around. I will ask questions easily and can share my thoughts and ideas with others.
